Nature-Based Consultation

For some people, meaningful reflection happens more easily outside the usual room. A walk in the woods, time by the water, or an afternoon in a boat can create a different kind of space: quieter, more spacious, less pressured, and more connected to the body and the natural world.

Nature has its own restorative quality. Many people find that time outdoors can soften habitual tension, widen perspective, support emotional clarity, and make it easier to sense what matters. The aim of nature and wilderness consultation is to combine this natural restorative setting with ISTDP-informed consultation in a thoughtful and practical way.

This work is not psychotherapy, psychological treatment, medical care, or crisis support. It is a skills-based consultation process. The focus is on learning, reflection, and the practical application of new skills to real-life situations. In this setting, nature is not a backdrop only; it becomes part of the experience. Movement, silence, weather, water, trees, and open space can all help slow things down and make room for a different kind of contact with oneself and receptivity to learning.

Depending on the circumstances, this may involve going out in a boat, walking in the forest, hiking in nature, or spending time outdoors in a quieter natural setting. The work may include conversation, reflection, and exploration of obstacles that are getting in the way of living, relating, or choosing more freely.

For those who feel drawn to this kind of work, nature and wilderness consultation can offer a grounded way to step outside ordinary routines, reconnect with the body and the natural world, and use ISTDP-informed ideas in a direct, experiential, and practical way.

Availability, location, weather, safety, and the fit of this format are considered carefully in advance. Anyone interested is welcome to inquire about whether this kind of consultation might be appropriate.

Nature and wilderness consultation through Johannes Kieding AB is not psychotherapy, psychological treatment, medical care, crisis support, or wilderness therapy. It is an educational and consultative service that may take place outdoors when appropriate.
